Make Money From Your Receipts With Receipt Hog
Receipts are something that many of us either keep (/hoard!) to keep track of our purchases and also if you want to return or exchange an item that you have recently bought, you will need your receipt when doing so. Or, we throw them out into the recycling!
What if I could tell you that you could earn money from your receipts?
Really, really.
I’m a huge advocate of making money wherever you can, and that every little bit adds up. For some people who perhaps earn a lot of money from their jobs or side hustles, this may seem pointless – but for those who are struggling to make money and are open to trying new things to do that, this is one of those things that can really help.
The app is free to use, and you are only using the receipts that you would just throw away anyway, and all it takes is a few seconds to take a photo of your receipt on the app and to answer a couple of questions.
You aren’t going to be a millionaire off of using this, but like I said, every little bit adds up and I hope it is something that can help those of you who are really struggling at the moment. In terms of how much money you get for the receipts that you upload and the ‘coins’ that this gets you, here is what you get:
UK Cash Out Amounts:
1,500 coins = £5
2,850 coins = £10
5,300 coins = £20
12,000 coins = £50
I spoke to Receipt Hog and asked them some general questions in order to get the best information for you possible on this app, which you can find below.
1. Which kind of receipts do you accept?
We break down receipts by whether they’re Coin-Receipt, Spin-Receipt, or Sweepstakes-Only Receipts. It’s helpful to keep in mind that these aren’t determined by the items purchased at the store, but rather how by the store identifies.
Stores that primarily sell fast-moving consumer products or disposable goods – think food, paper towels, etc – are Coin-Receipts.
The most frequent ones are:
- Grocery / Supermarket
- Health or Chemist
- Bargain or Pound Shops
- Drug & Pharmacy
- Liquor or Off-License
- Convenience & Corner Stores
- Beauty Supply
- Pet Supply
- Toy Stores
- NewsagentsCommon Spin-Receipt stores:
- Apparel
- Auto Part Retailers
- Department
- Home Improvement
- Home Furnishings
- Office Supply
- Electronics
- Arts & Crafts
- Sports & OutdoorsCommon Sweepstakes-Only Receipt stores:
- Gas / Petrol-only Receipts
- Receipts from Restaurants & Bars
- Receipts from Bakeries, Delis, and Cafes
2. Which receipts you do NOT accept?
Service Receipts, invoices, shipping confirmations, online orders, or non-standard receipts do not qualify for rewards. These include:
- Credit card slips
- Movie ticket stubs
- Hand-written receipts
- Return receipts
- Shipping invoices.
Because our business centers around reporting user purchasing behaviour, we unfortunately cannot reward receipts from within places of business whose primary function is as a service. Service-related receipts do not qualify since much of the time no consumer product is being sold, so they do not benefit our program. Hope to expand to these types of stores in the future though!
Businesses that primarily operate as a service would include:
- Post Offices
- Hotels
- Hospitals
- Salons
- Entertainment Venues (Cinema, Stadiums, etc)
- We’ve got a Help Center article that you may find helpful. It walks through what we’re looking for on a receipt and has visual examples of the types of receipts that won’t qualify.
3. How can you earn more / are there any hacks?
Hands down the best way to make sure you earn as much as possible is by uploading all of your qualifying receipts. Receipt uploads earn you direct rewards once they process, but they also are how you qualify for surveys.
Surveys are specifically triggered by purchasing an item of interest to our system, purchasing at certain retailers, or meeting a variety of survey-dependent conditions. New surveys with different qualifiers are constantly being added, so consistently snapping your receipts is the best way to make sure you get those surveys.
We’ve got some new survey features coming out soon that are going introduce a higher value survey project, so stay tuned!
We’ve got a couple other bonuses in the Rewards tab of the app – Amazon Connect, Email Connect, Facebook Connect – so you can always swing by there to see what’s available.
Note: It also appears that the longer you use Receipt Hog (3+ months, 6+ months, etc.) and the more frequently you use it, the higher your chances of earning more bonus opportunities such as surveys and barcode scans.
4. What do you do with the information that you gather?
Receipt data and survey responses are made anonymous and summarized in market research reports that large brands purchase. These companies pay for information such as, “Families in the XX area are 20% more likely than the rest of the United Kingdom to shop for laundry detergent at a corner shop than a traditional grocery store.”
You can always rest assured that all research data is 100% anonymous. We’re consumers in the mobile space too, so we’re very focused on security and ensuring anonymity.
The Privacy Policy is a great place to review the details if you want to know more. The support team is happy to answer any questions or provide more information on anything, so people can drop a line in directly from the FAQ in the mobile app or by reaching out on the Facebook page.
What do you think, do you fancy making some money from your receipts? Or have you already done so?
This is a good application, but i’m sad, it is not possible to use it in my country, and not only this application.
Aw no! Where do you live?
In Algeria.
Lots of negative reviews on the app site about Receipt Hog
Oh dear, what are they saying? I’ve never had any problems with it luckily
Error 1012. Is what??? Won’t let me into my account
I’m not sure sorry, I recommend heading over to their Facebook page and asking them directly 🙂
I cashed out for 25$ and have sent many emails. I’ve never recieved my reward. I am afraid to try to cash out any more. I might switch to another receipt app after this. I like this app but I also would like my rewards.
Oh no! Definitely reach out to them
